In 2018, South Africa decriminalised the cultivation, possession and use of cannabis for personal use in a private setting. However, Commercial and Medical Cannabis has also been made available through registered medical practitioners, accompanied by regulations overseen by SAHPRA (South African Health Products Regulatory Authority). Medical Dispensaries are the only establishments that hold the necessary licenses and certifications, from Synergy Wellness, to prescribe medical cannabis and issue internationally recognised medical cannabis cards.
